On January 28, at the NOFA-New York annual conference, there was a
discussion about the aftermath of the OTA rider, and where we go from
here.

Urvashi Rangan informed us that Consumers Union had drafted a letter,
signed by the Consumers Federation and other groups, protesting the
appointment to the NOSB of an executive from General Mills to fill a
seat reserved for consumer/public interest groups.  Although the letter
drew no reply from USDA, it did cause General Mills to withdraw the
name of their employee.  Apparently that company is not eager to tangle
with consumer groups on that issue.
On February 24 & 25, at the Upper Midwest Organic
Farming conference in LaCrosse, Wisconsin,

there will  be three  panels discussing the matter.  The first,
with myself and a representative of the Organic Trade
Association, will be at 4 PM on Friday, February 24, at the La
Crosse Center.

On Saturday, February 24, at 4 PM, another panel will be
moderated by Brian Baker.   And at 1 PM Saturday, another
panel will include Roger Blobaum and Mark Kastel
